Eric Kripke Signs Developmental Deal

More changes for season 4 Variety reports that Eric Kripke, creator and executive producer for The CW’s horror drama Supernatural, has signed an exclusive two year development deal with Warner Brothers Television. Under the deal terms, Kripke will continue to be showrunner for Supernatural, which will head into its fourth season in the Fall. He will also start to develop other projects. There is speculation that one could be Supernatural-related; Eric Kripke has talked about wanting to do a prequel set in the old west.

In other show news, TV Guide spoke with Eric Kripke, who says actress Katie Cassidy won’t be returning as Ruby the demon in season 4 after all due entirely to budgetary reasons. Eric Kripke had previously expressed his enthusiasm for the character as portrayed by Cassidy.

The show already cut the other of the two recurring female characters added to season 3, the mercenary Bela (portrayed by Lauren Cohan), due to both budget and the showrunners agreeing with many fans that the character didn’t work. However, there was expectation that Katie Cassidy’s character would stay.

In season 3, Ruby was a foil for Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki), offering to help him save his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) from going to hell. The season ended on a cliffhanger with Dean in hell and Ruby’s fate uncertain.

It actually isn’t clear if the character of Ruby will return, inhabiting other actors. The show previously did this with the character of the demon known as Meg (Nikki Aycox in season 1). Kripke told TV Guide there will be female characters in season 4, of the more one-shot variety. “We have a plan that’s as exciting as any we’ve ever had of how to thread new characters in some unexpected ways.” He also said that season 4 begins with “bombshells that will set the show off in a new direction.”

Actor Talks About Supernatural Season Four

CTOR Jared Padalecki of ghostbusting TV show Supernatural says the fourth series will begin filming next month - providing the potential actors’ strike doesn’t happen.

Jared plays Sam Winchester who, with brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) travels across the USA investigating paranormal phenomena such as ghosts, demons, werewolves and vampires.

He told reporters on the set of his film Friday the 13th: “I guess the strike is a huge issue. But as of right now, we’re supposed to start the first week of July, because they want to have it airing with Smallville, and Smallville starts shooting really early, so they want us to start shooting really early also so they can air new episodes of each together.”

Padalecki hasn’t seen any scripts for the new season yet, nor has he spoken with series creator Eric Kripke. “The only person I’ve really talked to is Jensen, who is spending his spring hiatus shooting his own horror movie, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, in Pittsburgh. He and I have just been keeping in touch, but I haven’t seen scripts or read scripts or heard any ideas. So I’m completely in the dark.”

Season 3 has finished in the US and is still airing in the UK on ITV2, with three more episodes to go before the finale. This UK fansite has show details.

If you’re a UK viewer who doesn’t want to be spoiled, then don’t read on….

Jensen’s character Dean was seen in the finale for Season 3 writhing in hell, with many fans fearing the character won’t return, but Padalecki said:”I’m assuming [that's] clearly not [the case].

“I think his plan is to be in Vancouver when I’m in Vancouver. I pray to God he is, because if not, then that would mean that I will have no one to share the show with. But, no, I’m sure Jensen is going to be a huge part of the show, as he always has been. Same as always. Just in hell.”

New Issue of Supernatural Magazine Now in Stores

There are numerous ways for hardcore Supernatural fans to get their fix of the Winchesters over the long summer hiatus. There’s a new Supernatural comic book series on the shelves, a few tie-in novels, the first two seasons on DVD, and, for a Jared and Jensen fix, reruns of Gilmore Girls and Smallville on the tube. However, fans who want to spend the next few months reading behind-the-scenes scoop about the series only need to turn to one place: The Official Supernatural Magazine. The fourth issue of the bimonthly publication was recently released, and it features exclusive interviews with the cast, a Q&A with creator Eric Kripke, and much more.

The most important feature in the latest issue is an extensive interview with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The Winchesters sit down to discuss their feelings on the third season, what it’s like to have prisoners obsessed with the show, and how they deal with things that go bump in the night. The issue also features an interview with Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Amber Benson, who played reluctant bloodsucker Lenore in season 2’s “Bloodlust.” She talks about her experience on the series and what it was like to play such an aggressive character.

In addition to the cast interviews, the issue also features a look back at season 3’s “A Very Supernatural Christmas,” a chat with Supernatural tie-in novelist Keith R.A. DeCandido, a sit down with director Mike Rohl, and an interview with a real life ghost hunter. Creator Eric Kripke also answers questions from the fans, and takes time to explain why Dean is just as important to the show’s mythology as Sam.

The fourth issue of The Official Supernatural Magazine is in stores everywhere. You can also subscribe to the magazine by visiting TitanMagazines.com.

Official Synopsis For My Bloody Valentine 3-D

Today Lionsgate provided us with the full synopsis for Patrick Lussier’s My Bloody Valentine 3-D. The film stars Jaime King, Jensen Ackles, Kerr Smith, Betsey Rue, Edi Gathegi and Tom Atkins. Check out the full details below.

Ten years ago, a tragedy changed the town of Harmony forever. Tom Hanniger, an inexperienced coal miner, caused an accident in the tunnels that trapped and killed five men and sent the only survivor, Harry Warden, into a permanent coma. But Harry Warden wanted revenge. Exactly one year later, on Valentine’s Day, he woke up…and brutally murdered twenty-two people with a pickaxe before being killed.

Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to Harmony on Valentine’s Day, still haunted by the deaths he caused. Struggling to make amends with his past, he grapples with unresolved feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Sarah, who is now married to his best friend, Axel, the town sheriff. But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony’s dark past has returned. Wearing a miner’s mask and armed with a pickaxe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. And as his footsteps come ever closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel realize in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who’s come back to claim them…

Supernatural Stars Get Gory on Big Screen

A few months ago it was announced that Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki would both be starring in horror films set for release in 2009.  First up will be Jensen’s My Bloody Valentine 3-D, which will be in theaters on January 23 of next year.  A few weeks later on February 13, fans can see Jared on the big screen in the remake of Friday the 13th.  Now that both films have started shooting, we have additional plot details and casting information for each of these gory romps.

The remake of Friday the 13th, which is currently shooting in Austin, Texas, has added quite a few cast members since Jared jumped on board.  Amanda Righetti, who played Hailey on The O.C., has been cast as the female lead.  Nana Visitor (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) will be playing Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees, and the big guy himself will be portrayed by actor Derek Mears.  Danielle Panabaker (Shark), Jonathan Sadowski (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Travis Van Winkle (Greek) and Aaron Yoo (Disturbia) have also joined the cast.

After a recent set visit, Bloody-Disgusting.com promised fans that the new Friday the 13th will feature “mass nudity, drug use, extreme violence, cussing like no tomorrow and most importantly, creative deaths.” This is great news to fans of the notoriously violent R-rated franchise.  However, Supernatural addicts hoping that the “mass nudity” will include Padalecki shouldn’t hold their breath, as it’s usually the ladies taking it off in these movies.

While Jared battles an unstoppable killing machine in Austin, Jensen is currently shooting My Bloody Valentine 3-D in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  In the film, which is a remake of a lesser known ’80s horror flick, Ackles will play a character who returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of a Valentine’s Day massacre.  Instead of being welcomed with open arms, his character becomes the prime suspect for the latest murders around town.

Kerr Smith, who will forever be known as Jack McPhee from Dawson’s Creek, has joined the cast as Axel Palmer.  Axel is the husband of Sarah, played by actress Jaime King (Sin City), and an antagonist for Ackles’ character.  If you’ve ever wanted to see a Dawson’s Creek reunion between C.J. and Jack McPhee, this is your big chance.  Kevin Tighe (Lost) and Marc Macaulay (Burn Notice) have also signed on to the 3-D splatterfest.

Supernatural fans are going to have a very busy, very bloody few weeks at the beginning of 2009.  I’m going to start saving my pennies and polishing my hockey mask in preparation for both gory slasher flicks.
